SPAD Pixel With Sub-NS Dead-Time for High-Count Rate Applications

چکیده

Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) exploitation in high-flux applications is often hindered by the trade-off between SPAD dead-time and afterpulsing probability. In this paper, we present architecture experimental characterization of two chips including a novel sensing, readout scheme designed to minimize (1.78 ns 0.93 respectively) probability (0.14% maximum). We have coupled with high-performance SPADs obtaining an extremely stable (6.44 psrms jitter) that can be easily regulated through external voltage. Thanks its compact size, pixel integrated within high-resolution arrays for GHz applications.

Compact SPAD-Based Pixel Architectures for Time-Resolved Image Sensors

This paper reviews the state of the art of single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) image sensors for time-resolved imaging. The focus of the paper is on pixel architectures featuring small pixel size (<25 μm) and high fill factor (>20%) as a key enabling technology for the successful implementation of high spatial resolution SPAD-based image sensors. A summary of the main CMOS SPAD implementations...

Characterization of SPAD Array for Multifocal High-Content Screening Applications

Current instruments used to detect specific protein-protein interactions in live cells for applications in high-content screening (HCS) are limited by the time required to measure the lifetime. Here, a 32 × 1 single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array was explored as a detector for fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) in HCS. Device parameters and characterization results were interpreted in th...

Success and failure of dead-time models as applied to hybrid pixel detectors in high-flux applications

The performance of a single-photon-counting hybrid pixel detector has been investigated at the Australian Synchrotron. Results are compared with the body of accepted analytical models previously validated with other detectors. Detector functionals are valuable for empirical calibration. It is shown that the matching of the detector dead-time with the temporal synchrotron source structure leads ...

Cmos Image Sensor Pixel with 2D CCD Memory Bank for Ultra High Speed Imaging with Large Pixel Count

We present the design and optimization of a 30um CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) pixel. This pixel is embedded in a sensor working in burst mode at speeds up to 5Mfps and high resolution (0.7Meg). Such performance is achieved using two dimensional CCD Memory bank at each pixel which was manufactured using a 0.18um well established CIS Process. Keywords— CCD in CMOS, Buried Channel, Charge Transfer, Glo...
